Our 2011 Steam Show was a huge success!

The Officers, Directors and Members want to thank everyone who braved the heat to come out and be with us this year.  As always, it is our wonderful exhibitors, our fabulous food vendors, and most importantly, our many fans and supporters who make our "Pageant of Steam" Shows the successes they have become over the years.  Thanks for stopping by our website and please..... Don't forget to sign our GUEST BOOK!

As we thank all who supported our Show this year, we would like to add a special thanks to Shine Transportation of Winchester, VA for the use of one of their refrigerated tractor-trailer rigs allowing us to keep pallets of ice on-site this year, making it much easier for the Club to keep the on-site ice coolers full.
SHINE TRANSPORTATION

We also want to thank the fine folks at Winchester Equipment Company in Winchester, VA for the use of the Bobcat, used for moving the large logs to the Sawmill as well as moving the weight blocks used in the Horse and Mule Pulls.  Click on the link below to visit their website.
WINCHESTER EQUIPMENT COMPANY

We also thank the wonderful folks at Candy Hill Campground for the use of a Golf Cart, making it easier for our flea market and vendor rep to get around the Park and Show Grounds quicker.

It's FRIDAY MORNING and Day 1 of our 2011 "Pageant of Steam" Show. Club Ladies Lisa Giles and Betty Kane are at the gate early directing the early arrival of many Exhibitors as well as the many fans who come out early on Friday to get a jump start on the weekend.

If this is your first time to our Steam Show webpage, we hope you will find that we offer a clean, "Family-Friendly" Show devoted to preserving our agricultural and farming heritage as well as the antique and vintage farm equipment of those years long ago. We hope that something you read or see in these pages will encourage you to bring your family to our 2012 "Pageant of Steam" Show.

Thanks for visiting our website.  Please.... Don't forget to sign our Guest Book!

We saw an increase in our campers for 2011. While we do have a few sites with access to electricity, most do not and none have water hookups.  Primitive would best describe the Camping at our Steam Show but these pictures will show we have quite a few who come to camp and stay all weekend with us.  We do have some sites located in the main park area and all sites are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For more information on camping facilities at our Steam Show, contact SVSGEA President Rick Custer at: tractorman61@frontier.com .

We take pride in our annual Steam Show to not only feature some of the best and finest in vintage and antique steam, gas, and diesel-powered farm equipment, but to make our shows as educational as possible for the youth who visit our show as well as bringing back memories for those who lived the past history our great nation.

The next few pictures feature Mr. Steve Lee of Buchannan, WV who had an interesting exhibit and display.  Taking old forks and spoons, Mr. Lee bent and twisted these utensils into card holders and jewelry holders.

Speaking of Educational?  Welcome to our annual BLACKSMITHING 101 course.  John, our Blacksmith in white cap below, is not only a very accomplished craftsman, but also tries to pass along some of his art and craft to our visitors, as shown in the pictures below.  We have several youth who participate and experience blacksmithing as well as a father and son duo under the watchful eye of our master Blacksmiths.
And how many Blacksmiths do you know who show up for work in a WHITE DRESS?  Meet Mary Shedden of Gaines, PA.  Mary and John have been regular Exhibitors at our Steam Show for many years.
Educational?  Historical?

You Bet!

Hungry Yet?
Our Steam Show Directors made a few changes for 2011 and one of our biggest and BEST changes was bringing back many of our favorite Food Vendors.  Variety?  If you didn't find something to satisfy your hunger pains during this year's Show, you just weren't hungry!  This year we had everything from those wonderfully "seasoned" fried taters and Italian Sausages from C & C Concessions to the fabulous grilled Chicken, Bar-B-Q, and Prime Rib from Lowry's Catering to Mr. Miller's dynamite Philly Steak and Cheese sandwiches and ribbon fries to the delicious Ice Cream treats and don't forget the Pizza guys!
And LOTS of Hamburgers and Hotdogs!

It's close to 6:00PM.  You begin to hear tractors firing up the engines and slowly heading toward the scales.  It's time for our annual Antique Tractor Pull and that begins with the weigh-in!

Our extremely competent tractor weigh-in staff as shown below:  Donnie Dunn, Charlie Gray, and Mike Lanham.

Tractors must be 1959 or older and all engines MUST NOT EXCEED original factory settings and specifications.

Each year, the members of the Clarke County Young Farmers Club help us put on the Antique Tractor Pull.  Whether it's operating the huge sled or working the signal flags, the Clarke County Young Farmers are an important part of our Tractor Pull and we certainly do appreciate all that they do for our Club and our Steam Show.

And so brings to a close DAY 1 of our 2011 "Pageant of Steam" Show.

Day 2 will begin promptly at 8:30 AM Saturday beginning with our annual Consignment Auction!

See you in the morning!
