 Saturday - Day 2

It's Saturday Morning!
Day 2 of our 2010 "Pageant of Steam" show!  Folks begin arriving early to register for the annual SVSGEA Auction that starts PROMPTLY at 9:00.

Shown below are some of the Club's Admitting Gate Crew.... Chelsea Angus, Julie Mauck, Cassi Hessler, and Betty Kane.

Again this year, we were extremely proud to have Brian Hash of Hash Auctions in Berryville, VA as our Auctioneer.
And another "first" for our annual Show.... we set up a tent for Brian's staff and let them utilize their wireless computer network so that as soon as an item was sold, the bid was entered into a computer on the truck and sent to the ladies under the tent so that the bidder could pay for his item immediately rather than wait until the auction is over, several hours later, as it used to be.

Did we mention the super warm temperatures for this year's Show?  Check out the exhibit shown at left.... notice a vintage gas engine belted to a fan blower?
Throughout the entire weekend, we feature demonstrations of our antique and vintage equipment.  This group of photos features our Club's belt-driven Sawmill.  The Sawmill is usually belted up to one of our Steam Tractors during the Show.
Our Club's vintage belt-driven Shingle Mill is belted up to an early 1900's Aultman & Taylor portable Steam Engine, owned and operated by Mr. Charles Gray of Round Hill, VA.  SVSGEA Show Director Kenny Pruitt operates the Club's vintage Shingle Mill.  Visitors are encouraged to take a fresh-cut slab of Cedar or Pine shingle home with them as a memento of their visit to our Show.
Our Shingle Mill Demonstration begins with the cutting of the Shingle wood blocks.  These blocks are either Cedar or Pine.  The blocks are cut with a belt-driven saw.
At 12 Noon, the Steam Tractors in the park begin blowing their loud steam whistles, signaling to all in the park that it is time for the annual "Pageant of Steam" Show's "Parade of Power" parade.  Anyone with anything to ride powered by steam or gas begins to head over to the Pull Track on their machines and line-up for the parade.
The Shenandoah Valley Steam and Gas Engine Association lost a good friend in March of this year.  Fred Craig, past President of the Mason-Dixon Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society lost his battle with Cancer.  Fred had a fabulous collection of antique trucks and trailers, giving our visitors insight as to what the early trucking industry was like before Interstate Highways and the equipment that was used.

We want to thank the members of the Mason-Dixon Club as well as the many others who brought their trucks to display at our show.

Let's see ..... you've been to the Auction, made a lap or two through the park checking out the flea market vendors and exhibits, watched the Parade of Power, grabbed a bite to eat, checked out the crafts and displays in the arts and crafts building, and just now, you are sitting in the shade finishing off that slushee and ice cream cone.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
It's time for the annual SVSGEA Horse Pull!
Back again by popular demand, Stoney Creek Bluegrass Band finishes out Day 2 of our "Pageant of Steam" Show.

And so ends DAY 2 of the 2010 SVSGEA "Pageant of Steam" Show.  But this is NOT the end of the Show!  Sunday is a whole new day!
